What is a masterbatch? A masterbatch is a concentrated pellet of pigment, additive or filler dispersed in a carrier resin, used to colour or modify a base polymer during extrusion or moulding. It removes the dust handling of powder dosing and gives more consistent dispersion. Loadings vary by type, from a small addition for colour and functional grades (anti-block, slip, UV) to a higher proportion for filler masterbatches dosed for economics. We share the recommended dosage per grade. How are your additives different from generic alternatives? Shreegopal Polychem began in 1997 in Jodhpur with a single product, treated calcium oxide moisture-remover powder, for plastic processors who could not get clean extrusion from hygroscopic resin. That one grade has grown into around twenty-eight grades across five product families: desiccant powder, desiccant masterbatch, filler masterbatch, colour masterbatch and additive masterbatch. Each grade was added because a customer asked for it, not because it filled a gap on a brochure. In high-speed blown and cast film operations, roll-to-roll blocking is a persistent problem. It causes micro-tearing at unwinding, jams form-fill-seal jaws, and forces line stoppages. Anti-Block eliminates this by placing a microscopic standoff between adjacent film layers so they separate cleanly every time, without damage to print or lamination surfaces. It is particularly suited to recyclate streams where the original stabiliser package has been consumed by prior heat history. Dedicated non-yellowing grades are available for food-contact applications. How does it chemically protect the polymer? By free-radical scavenging. The primary antioxidant interrupts the chain-propagation step of auto-oxidation, while the secondary co-stabiliser decomposes hydroperoxides into non-radical products. The two work synergistically: the primary stops the chain, the secondary cleans up the by-products. What active content and stabiliser ratio do you supply? Active loading and the primary-to-secondary ratio are tuned per application: general extrusion grades differ from high-temperature or high-shear processes such as TPR and TPV, and from long-term thermal stability grades for cable insulation. The bittering agent is thermally stable across the standard cable processing window and survives standard cable extrusion. For PVC, a PVC-compatible carrier is supplied to avoid plasticiser interactions. How does it deter rodents chemically? The active is **a food-safe bittering agent**, one of the most bitter substances known. It binds intensely to bitter-taste receptors. Rodents that bite the cable jacket or pipe wall encounter an immediate, intolerable bitter taste and abandon the chew. Crucially it is **non-toxic and non-systemic**, deterrent only, so it complies with non-lethal pest-control regulations. How long does the deterrence last? The bittering agent is incorporated into the polymer bulk, not topically applied, and its vapour pressure is negligible. How does it work? Internal antistats are amphiphilic molecules: a non-polar tail compatible with the polyolefin and a polar head. After processing, the additive blooms slowly to the part surface; the polar heads attract a thin film of atmospheric moisture, creating a microscopic conductive layer that dissipates static. Surface resistivity drops well below that of untreated PE at the recommended loading. How long does the antistatic effect last? Slower-blooming grades give **durable static control** for the typical service life of the part (months to years), as the migration is slow and continuous from the polymer bulk. Faster-blooming grades give a quicker initial effect but plateau sooner. The PE or PP carrier is universal across polyolefins (HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, PP) and also disperses well in EVA. For PVC, PS, ABS or engineering polymers, ask us for a carrier-matched grade, as a standard polyolefin carrier is not directly compatible. It depends on the application and the properties your part has to hold. The typical industry range is 10 to 30 percent by weight of the final compound. Lower loadings suit thin-gauge and blown film where surface finish matters; higher loadings suit injection-moulded parts and woven products. We recommend a short trial on your line to settle on the right dose for your specific resin and tooling. Which polymers does it work with? We supply two grades. The PP grade is for polypropylene-based lines, the PE grade is for polyethylene-based lines. Pick the grade that matches your host resin and the carrier will melt together with your line resin cleanly. How does it affect the finished part mechanically? At normal loadings, a properly coated calcium carbonate filler disperses cleanly and the trade-off in mechanical properties is small. Stiffness usually goes up, impact and tensile come down slightly. For higher loadings, our Modifier Polybooster W, a polymer modifier can be used alongside the filler to maintain mechanical properties. What is the standard packaging? Standard packaging is 25 kg PP bags suitable for industrial handling. A bulk-bag option is available for converters running on tonne pricing. What is the shelf life and how should I store it? Stored in sealed original packaging in a cool, dry warehouse, the product remains usable through normal industrial storage windows. Same active chemistry, different format. The powder is a free-flowing powder dosed directly at the hopper. The masterbatch wraps the same calcium oxide chemistry inside polymer carrier pellets, so it can be metered through a standard pellet feeder alongside your colour and additive masterbatches. When should I choose the masterbatch over the powder? If your line is built around pellet feeders and you would rather not add powder handling or a separate dosing system, the masterbatch is the cleaner choice. It also makes housekeeping easier, since there is no powder upstream of the extruder. Which plastics does it work with? The carrier is a polyolefin, so it pairs naturally with polyethylene and polypropylene host resins. It can also be used in other thermoplastics where the carrier is compatible with the host. Share the host resin and we will confirm the right grade. Do I still need a hopper dryer? For most polyolefin extrusion and moulding lines, the masterbatch removes the need for a separate pre-drying step because the calcium oxide binds residual moisture during melt processing. For highly hygroscopic engineering polymers, share the host resin and we will tell you whether a drying stage is still worth keeping. Does it keep the finished part looking clean? At typical loadings the masterbatch disperses cleanly into the melt and is not visible in the finished part. For high-clarity end uses, share the application and a short trial on your line will confirm the right grade. How should I store it? Keep the bags sealed in a cool, dry indoor space until you are ready to use them. Once a bag is opened, reseal it between uses so the desiccant stays active. Loading to reach UL 94 V0 depends on the polymer, part geometry and bar thickness. **Halogen-free intumescent grades** on PP require higher total loading than halogenated systems. **Mineral-hydrate EVA cable compounds** require even higher loading. The **halogenated grade** is more weight-efficient at thin wall. Final loading is always bar-thickness dependent; we recommend a UL 94 verification on the actual part geometry and can supply matched grades with dosing guidance. Halogen-free or halogenated, which one? For cable, building wire, mass-transit interior and any **LSZH** specification, halogen-free is mandatory. Intumescent systems give V0 with low smoke and no acid gas; mineral-hydrate systems give low smoke with active heat absorption. For **thin-wall electronics housings** and connectors where total loading must remain within processable limits, the halogenated grade is more weight-efficient; we share specific guidance at the grade-selection stage. We supply both classes; the right pick depends on end-use regulation and mechanical budget. How does the intumescent system work? An intumescent flame retardant has three working parts. The **acid source** decomposes on heating and releases an acid. The **carbon source** is dehydrated by that acid into a carbonaceous char. The **blowing agent** decomposes endothermically and releases an inert gas, which expands the char into a thick, insulating foam. The foam blocks heat and oxygen transfer to the polymer below, so combustion self-extinguishes. Which polymers and cable standards are covered? Standard carriers are **LDPE, PP and EVA**, compatible with HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, PP, EVA, TPE and TPU compounds. Cable grades are formulated to meet **vertical flame spread tests**, **Indian cable sheath requirements**, and **UL 94 V0 / V1 / V2** ratings for moulded parts. Smoke density testing is available on request for transit and infrastructure work. Can I get a trial sample? Yes. We supply **trial samples** for line evaluation and UL bar testing. Share polymer grade, end-use (cable jacket, moulding, profile), target standard (UL 94 V0 / V1 / V2) and bar thickness. We ship a matched grade with a Certificate of Analysis. Sample shipping is free within India; export samples are available with freight at cost. What’s the lead time? Standard halogen-free intumescent and mineral-hydrate grades ship in **10 to 18 working days**. Halogenated grades and LSZH cable compounds matched to a specific standard take 3 to 5 weeks. Addition level depends on how moist your feed resin is. At low to moderate addition levels it handles most production moisture; heavily contaminated regrind may need a higher dose, confirmed by a short trial on your actual feed. Which plastics does it work with? All common polyolefins (HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, PP), plus PVC, PS, ABS, EVA, and engineering plastics like PA, PBT, PC. The treated surface keeps it from clouding the final part. How much moisture can it absorb? Treated calcium oxide binds close to a third of its own weight in moisture. In practice, it reduces moisture effectively at low addition levels, keeping the line running cleanly. What's the shelf life and how do I store it? Store in original sealed packaging, cool and dry, away from humidity, and use within the stated shelf life. Once opened, use promptly and reseal between uses. Does it keep my film clear and transparent? Yes - at recommended addition levels the treated calcium oxide disperses cleanly and stays effectively invisible in the final part. For very high-clarity packaging films, we recommend our finer-micron grade and a quick trial. Is it safe for food packaging? Yes - for food packaging we can supply a food-contact-suitable grade. Flag the end use at the enquiry stage and we will recommend the correct grade with the relevant documentation. Loading depends on the resin, die gap and severity of sharkskin. LLDPE blown film with sharkskin onset typically requires a moderate dose, while HDPE pipe and tight-gap dies benefit from a higher dose. Conditioning time varies by line and resin. Contact us for grade-specific dosing guidance. Which resins is it compatible with? The LDPE / LLDPE carrier is compatible with LLDPE, mLLDPE, HDPE and LDPE. This additive is most effective in resins with narrow molecular-weight distribution (such as LLDPE and mLLDPE) that show melt fracture at modest shear rates. It can be antagonised by certain pigments and fillers and by amide slip; we tune the formulation if your line uses these co-additives. How does PPA work on the die wall? The processing aid is immiscible with polyolefin and has a much lower surface energy than PE. During extrusion it migrates to the die wall and forms a thin continuous **low-friction coating**. This provides die-wall slip, eliminates the stick-slip mechanism that causes sharkskin and measurably reduces die pressure. How long does conditioning take, and how long does it last? Conditioning takes **a short period after start-up** at standard loading; sharkskin disappears progressively as the coating builds. Once established, the coating is self-replenishing as long as the masterbatch is fed continuously. If the masterbatch feed is stopped, the coating is scoured off by polymer flow over a decay period of several hours of running. Mechanical die cleaning resets the line to neat-polymer behaviour. Can I get a trial sample? Yes. We supply **1-2 kg trial samples**. Share resin grade, melt flow, die-gap, current sharkskin-onset shear rate and any pigment or slip co-additives; we ship a matched grade with a Certificate of Analysis and dosing guidance. Three checks before despatch. First, on raw material: moisture, particle size, ash and a visual on carriers, pigments and additives. Second, in the compounding line: melt flow, dispersion (filter pressure value), colour against the reference, homogeneity. Third, on the finished pellet: shape, bulk density, moisture and final melt flow against the grade sheet. A CoA with the lot number, test values and tolerances ships with every consignment. Is your lab independently audited? Yes. We are ISO 9001:2015 certified and audited annually by an accredited body. The current certificate is available on request. Customer audits of the Jodhpur facility are welcome with reasonable notice. Can you run a custom formulation trial? Yes. We regularly build custom masterbatches and additive blends matched to a specific resin, line speed and end-use. The flow: brief, lab pilot on a twin-screw or single-screw extruder, dispersion check, 1-2 kg trial sample with a draft CoA, your line trial, sign-off against the agreed spec, then production. Same application chemist from brief to production. What is the typical R&D timeline for a new grade? A tweak to an existing grade (different loading, different carrier, shade match): 5-10 working days from brief to trial sample. A new formulation or difficult dispersion problem: 3-4 weeks. Pantone or RAL shade matches usually return within a week. Firm timeline confirmed once we have seen the brief. What lab equipment do you use? In-house: melt flow (MFI), moisture (Karl Fischer, loss-on-drying), dispersion (filter pressure value), particle size, ash content (muffle furnace), colour delta (spectrophotometer) and a lab-scale twin-screw extruder for pilot batches. Specialised tests (FTIR, DSC, TGA, GPC) run through accredited external labs when needed. How do you ensure batch-to-batch consistency? Three controls. Raw material locked to approved suppliers with incoming QC against a fixed spec. Process settings (temperature, screw speed, throughput) per grade fixed in an SOP. Finished pellets tested against the same reference values every lot, within agreed tolerances. The CoA on every consignment shows the actual numbers, so you can spot any drift lot to lot. Can you provide a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) with every batch? Yes. Every consignment ships with a CoA showing the grade, lot number, manufacture date, test results (melt flow, moisture, dispersion, colour delta, ash, where relevant) and agreed tolerances. Which films and resins is it compatible with? The polyolefin carrier is compatible with HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, PP, BOPP and EVA. Slow-bloom grades are universal across PE and PP. Fast-bloom grades are preferred for LDPE film where quick bloom is needed. For high-temperature applications and EVA layers, grades with higher thermal stability are supplied. How does it work mechanically? Fatty primary amides are partially soluble in the polymer melt but exceed solubility at room temperature. After cooling, the amide blooms slowly to the surface and forms a microscopic boundary lubricant layer at the film surface. The hydrocarbon tail lies flat against the film; the polar amide head pairs with the next film surface, dropping film-to-film kinetic COF measurably from the untreated polyolefin baseline. Slow-bloom or fast-bloom, which should I use? The **slow-bloom** grade delivers durable slip for the full service life of the part with very low evaporation losses on storage. The **fast-bloom** grade gives an immediate effect but evaporates faster and is less suited to high-temperature handling. Use the slow-bloom grade for long-storage rolls and high-temperature handling, and the fast-bloom grade for immediate-use FFS lines. Can I get a trial sample? Yes. Loading is set by the severity of the corrosion environment. **Lower loading** suits light applications: small parts, short transit, controlled indoor storage. **Higher loading** is required for demanding corrosion environments: large steel surfaces, marine atmosphere or long-term warehouse storage. Bag film and bubble wrap use equivalent loading. We confirm the dose against your parts (steel grade, surface finish, surface area to package volume ratio) and the expected storage duration. How does VCI protect metal inside packaging? The corrosion-inhibiting additive has a low but finite vapour pressure at ambient temperature. After the film is blown it slowly volatilises out of the polymer into the enclosed atmosphere. The molecules adsorb onto exposed metal and form a **passive monolayer** that displaces water and oxygen, blocking the electrochemical reaction that drives corrosion. The film acts as a slow-release reservoir for the inhibitor. Which metals does it protect, and is there a multi-metal grade? The standard grade is optimised for **ferrous metals** (carbon steel, cast iron, low-alloy steel) with full protection up to 24 months. For **aluminium, copper, zinc, brass and galvanised steel** we supply a multi-metal grade with a balanced inhibitor blend that does not blacken non-ferrous surfaces. Specify the metal mix at enquiry; a single film should not be expected to protect ferrous and copper alloys with the same chemistry, since some inhibitors that protect steel will attack copper. How long does the protection last, and what affects it? A correctly sealed VCI package gives **up to 24 months** of protection at standard loading. Service life depends on three factors: **package integrity** (every open and re-close vents inhibitor), **temperature** (higher temperature drives faster inhibitor loss) and the **surface-to-volume ratio** of metal to free air. Punctured or partly open bags lose protection within weeks. For dispatch lots opened in transit, expect several months of protection, with duration depending on film gauge, seal integrity and storage conditions. Is Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor Masterbatch compliant for food and regulated industries? For indirect food-contact use we supply a **nitrite-free grade** whose actives are listed under **FDA 21 CFR**; the standard ferrous grade is for industrial packaging. The actives are **REACH-registered** in the EU. For defence and aerospace packaging the film can be tested against **MIL-PRF-3420** and **MIL-STD-3010** corrosion protocols on request.
