Black Masterbatch in moulded bottles, containers, film and household plastics

Black Masterbatch

Carbon black masterbatch for deep, uniform black with UV protection in PE and PP.

Black Masterbatch is a high carbon black loading dispersed in a PE or PP carrier resin, supplying UV-stable jet-black colouration for cable jackets, drip pipe, woven sacks, geomembrane and outdoor PE components at low letdown.

Carbon black dispersed at high loading in a polyolefin carrier. Controlled structure delivers a true jet finish at low letdown. Carbon black is also a broad-band UV absorber: the same loading that colours the part also protects it from photo-oxidative degradation outdoors. Available in regrind-friendly grades and high-tint grades, with PE, PP and universal carriers to match the host resin.

Two jobs in one loading

Carbon black is both pigment and UV absorber.

  1. 01

    Pigment at the nano scale

Carbon black aggregates scatter and absorb visible light across the spectrum, producing the deep, neutral black you specify.

  2. 02

    UV photons absorbed

The same carbon black absorbs UV-A and UV-B before they break C-C bonds in the polymer backbone. Free polymer chains stay intact.

  3. 03

    Field life extended

Agri pipe, drip irrigation, geomembrane, cable jacketing, service life under sun stretches from months to many years.

Key benefits

Strong UV protection

Carbon black absorbs UV-A and UV-B, extending field life on agri pipe and geomembrane.

Deep, jet-black colour

Tightly controlled primary particle size delivers a true jet finish with neutral undertone.

Cost-effective opacity & coverage

High tinting strength means low letdown ratio for film, pipe and moulded parts.

Conductive grades available on request

Conductive carbon black grades for ESD, semiconductive and antistatic applications.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the recommended letdown ratio?

Low letdown is required for full opacity. For outdoor HDPE pipe and geomembrane with extended UV exposure, a slightly higher dose is recommended to fully harness the UV-screening effect of carbon black. Exact dosage depends on the grade selected and required jetness.

Which resins is it compatible with?

The PE or PP carrier is universal across polyolefins (HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, PP) and is also processable in PS, ABS, EVA and engineering polymers when the host melt flow index is matched. Specific grades are formulated for cable jacketing, drip irrigation, blown film and injection mouldings.

What grade of carbon black is used, and how does it protect against UV?

Standard grades use carbon black at high loading in the carrier. Carbon black absorbs UV and dissipates the energy as heat, protecting the polymer backbone from photo-oxidative degradation during outdoor service.

What jetness and dispersion quality should I expect?

High-jet grades deliver excellent jetness with an undertone in the blue region. Dispersion is filter-pressure-tested to confirm no agglomerates pass to the screen pack, making grades suitable for thin-gauge blown film applications.

Can I get a trial sample?

Yes. We send trial samples for evaluation on your line. Specify resin, line type (blown film, pipe, moulding) and target shade; we ship a matched grade with a Certificate of Analysis and dispersion report. Sample shipping is free within India; export samples available with freight at cost.

What’s the lead time?

Standard grades ship in 7-14 working days from order confirmation. Custom formulations matched to a specific jetness or cable-grade dispersion spec take 3-4 weeks. We confirm exact timelines once we have your specification.
