PPA in LLDPE blown film extrusion.

Polymer Processing Aid Masterbatch

Process at full speed without sharkskin.

Polymer Processing Aid Masterbatch makes film and pipe lines run faster and cleaner. It coats the extruder die with a thin slip layer that removes sharkskin (melt fracture), drops die pressure and lifts output. Used on hard-to-process LLDPE, mLLDPE and HDPE blown film and pipe.

A polymer processing aid on a polyolefin carrier that coats the die wall in operation and lets the polymer melt slip across it. Eliminates melt fracture (sharkskin), reduces extruder back-pressure and lifts blown-film throughput on hard-to-process LLDPE, mLLDPE and HDPE resins. The most-effective single intervention for tight-die-gap blown film and small-bore pipe extrusion.

Key benefits

Eliminates melt fracture

Removes sharkskin defects at the die exit for a smooth, glossy film surface across hard-to-process LLDPE and mLLDPE grades.

Reduces die build-up & pressure

Coats the die wall to drop extruder head pressure and minimise gel streaks during long production runs.

Higher line output

Lifts line speed at constant pressure, delivering measurable throughput gains on blown film and pipe extrusion.

Smoother surface finish

Improves gloss and clarity on flexible packaging and barrier films without affecting downstream properties.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the recommended loading in blown film?

Loading depends on the resin, die gap and severity of sharkskin. LLDPE blown film with sharkskin onset typically requires a moderate dose, while HDPE pipe and tight-gap dies benefit from a higher dose. Conditioning time varies by line and resin. Contact us for grade-specific dosing guidance.

Which resins is it compatible with?

The LDPE / LLDPE carrier is compatible with LLDPE, mLLDPE, HDPE and LDPE. This additive is most effective in resins with broad molecular-weight distribution that show melt fracture at modest shear rates. It can be antagonised by certain pigments and fillers and by amide slip; we tune the formulation if your line uses these co-additives.

How does PPA work on the die wall?

The processing aid is immiscible with polyolefin and has a much lower surface energy than PE. During extrusion it migrates to the die wall and forms a thin continuous low-friction coating. This provides die-wall slip, eliminates the stick-slip mechanism that causes sharkskin and measurably reduces die pressure.

How long does conditioning take, and how long does it last?

Conditioning takes a short period after start-up at standard loading; sharkskin disappears progressively as the coating builds. Once established, the coating is self-replenishing as long as the masterbatch is fed continuously. If the masterbatch feed is stopped, the coating is scoured off by polymer flow over a decay period of several hours of running. Mechanical die cleaning resets the line to neat-polymer behaviour.

Can I get a trial sample?

Yes. We supply 1-2 kg trial samples. Share resin grade, melt flow, die-gap, current sharkskin-onset shear rate and any pigment or slip co-additives; we ship a matched grade with a Certificate of Analysis and dosing guidance. Sample shipping is free within India; export samples available with freight at cost.

What’s the lead time?

Standard grades ship in 7-14 working days. Custom formulations for pigment-laden systems or high-throughput pipe extrusion take 3-4 weeks. We confirm an exact timeline at the quote stage.
